Ann Webb-Kirkland Personal Trainer
Ann Webb-Kirkland has been a personal trainer in the Los Angeles area since early 2003. ACE and Power of 10 certified, Ann has worked with well over 100 clients from all walks of life and different levels of fitness, including celebrities, athletes, seniors, teens and more.
Ann’s prior experience includes Russian kettlebells as well as balance and core stabilization. “Balance and stabilization training is a great added tool for most clients to have in their programs BUT it is not enough to do just this type of work. It is a great addition to strength training. ”
Russian kettlebells, says Ann, were a great tool with which to achieve a high level of intensity. “The downside of using the kettlebells is the ballistic nature of the exercises and maneuvers. Combining intensity with ballistic movement is a recipe for injury.”
DISCOVERING SlOW MOTION STRENGTH TRAINING
“Sheila Melody, being a friend of mine and actually a past client, introduced me to this workout. Once she became a certified instructor herself and opened her own studio, she then introduced me to become a trainer at the Los Angeles gym. I took right to the science and dove right in. I haven’t looked back since. This approach to exercise is the answer to me becoming a much more effective and efficient instructor.”
Why does she feel this way? “One cannot argue with scientific fact. The safety aspect of this method of strength training allows me to invite most anyone into this program. Without forceful movements or momentum, risk of injury becomes very minimal, even if a client has specific physical or health limitations. We can feel good knowing we will be able to help them rather than hurt them. The effective aspect of the workout is also invaluable. Removing momentum and having clients lift and lower weight at a very slow and steady pace allows them to properly fatigue the muscles without hurting their joints or connective tissue. Not only does this make them stronger, it allows them to adhere to the program without disruption from being injured. Having a client completely trained in under 30 minutes at a level of intensity like no other program out there is just out of this world! THAT is EFFICIENCY! We are surrounded by people who have to hustle to make a living. Few have time to spend in a gym several hours a week. This is ideal!”
How do Ann’s clients feel about the program? “One client came in and announced that after only five sessions, her doctor was able to cut her blood pressure medication in half. Another client who was battling a consistently high level of blood glucose was finally able to lower and stabilize it. Yet another client bought his first tank top and was thrilled to put it on after years of lacking in the confidence to wear one.”
Both Ann and her clients also say that the strength training equipment at the Burbank gym studio is second to none. “Lifting and lowering weights slow and steady is difficult enough, but doing so on subpar equipment, full of friction and sticking points, is out of the question. Clients generally say that going back to using every day gym equipment is next to impossible after working out on our MedEx and Nautilus machines.” Ann says she and here clients also have an appreciation for the quiet, focused atmosphere created at the Burbank studio. “Because taking the intensity ‘to 11’ requires full concentration and almost a meditative state of mind, unwelcome distractions are generally non-existent in our gym space. No TV’s. No horrid, loud music. No idiotic cross talk from other members or that guy prattling on with his cell phone . . . I can’t say enough about how I love being an instructor here but also being a client as well!”
WHY SLOW MOTION STRENGTH TRAINING WITH US?
“If anyone has the desire to become stronger, healthier and freer to live their life then it wouldn’t make sense to sign up anywhere else. Not only can we get you strong as heck, we can get you there without undermining your health or safety AND there is plenty of time to take the wife to dinner and a movie. Let’s compare our workout to bowling. When throwing that ball down the lane, one aims to bowl a strike, not to throw three balls only to knock down some of the pins. Why then would we not aim to knock out all our muscle fibers in one set rather than have a bunch of unused fibers left un-recruited after three sets? That reminds me…signing up at InForm Fitness Los Angeles also allows a person more time to go bowling!”
WHY CHOOSE ANN AS YOUR LOS ANGELES PERSONAL TRAINER?
“First of all, I love what I do which is teaching people how to get stronger and healthier by exercising CORRECTLY. Having a certification to be a personal trainer is only the bare essentials to being able to do this job. Having a certification as a slow motion strength trainer has given me an even deeper understanding of how exercise not only affects one’s muscles but how it affects one’s biological functions. The high standards of this certification have enabled me to become a much better instructor, which also means being a better listener and a better communicator. That’s huge. I see all too often the drone instructor on the gym floor with his/her client with one eye on one of the many TV’s and one eye on the cell phone. That’s unheard of at our studio.”
Says Ann, “I want our readers to know that what we offer here is VALUE. Paying someone to train you isn’t necessarily enough. Paying someone who knows what they’re doing to take you to your physical and mental limit SAFELY AND EFFECTIVELY in 30 minutes or less is indeed value. Having it being so effective that it only takes one 30 minute visit per week is indeed value! Having a well-trained instructor give you undivided attention and guidance is indeed value!”
